Jahmu Public Benefit Corporation was founded in 2014 with the mission of sharing the healing properties of turmeric and ginger. Jessica began drinking and preparing jamu when she lived in Indonesia. Upon returning to the US, she began making a yellow beverage from raw turmeric root, ginger root, local honey, and organic milk, which she called Liquid Sunshine. During a seasonal shortage of raw turmeric, Jessica changed her recipe by replacing the fresh turmeric root with organic ground turmeric powder. The ground turmeric was actually more nutritionally concentrated than the fresh turmeric root. Jessica's friends, family, and farmers market customers were delighted with her new concoction which was more like a turmeric-ginger chai tea than the traditional Indonesia elixir, made with fresh turmeric and ginger roots. Jahmu PBC now offers 7 varieties of instant turmeric ginger chai teas.
